The Ship&Offshore-Webinar POWERED by MTU is designed to educate marine professionals about the variety of marine propulsion systems – the first one focusing on how electrification is changing the marine marketplace. The presenters will introduce a range of topics including changing market trends and requirements, advanced hybrid system solutions, and implications for predetermined marine market segments. During the webcast the presenters will provide examples of successful hybrid projects from around the world and outline several best practices to consider when evaluating e-drive options.

Sebastian Schwarz joined MTU Friedrichshafen in 2001 following six years in the heavy vehicle industry. He is supervising the Marine Application Engineering team for commercial vessels and offshore Installations.
 
From 2007-2010 he was project manager for a research programme sponsored by the German ministry of transport (BMVBS) evaluating diesel particulate filters (DPF) in inland waterway vessels.
 
Current engineering tasks include IMO Tier 3 solutions with Series 4000 diesel engines and SCR aftertreatment (selective catalytic reduction). His team is also exploring alternative fuel technologies such as lean burn gas engines and synthetic diesel fuels derived from biomass (BTL) or gas (GTL). Schwarz is involved in several hybrid propulsion system projects in Europe and Asia, and supports various MTU development programmes within the green and high tech strategy.

Damir Alihodzic joined MTU in 2009 following five years as a professional in our Training Department. In 2014 Alihodzic moved to R&D and became responsible for the development and serialisation of power electronics and electrical machines.
 
Currently, Alihodzic is responsible for developing power management functions for hybrid propulsion systems and supporting various MTU development programmes including customer projects for marine hybrid solutions.
